Afri Art Fashion show has been recognised for its efforts in safe guarding Uganda’s heritage through art and fashion by creating an authentic experience for travellers to experience the culture and heritage of Uganda through fashion. This recognition is through Two nominations in the Ekkula suastainable Tourism Awards 2024.
Afri Art fashion show has been nominated under the ‘Cultural Heritage Champion award ‘ and Sustainable Tourism Innovation Award. The afri art fashion show stands a chance to win the award an if it can amass support from the voters. Afri art fashion show’s mission is To Inspire global appreciation of African culture and Heritage through sustainable, and Ethical African fashion products.
About the Afri art Fashion show
The afri art and fashion show is an annual Event that promotes african culture through Art, fashion and crafts. This event empowers local artisan designers who make ethical and environmentally friendly fashion, art and craft products out of bark cloth, sisal, pyrus, cotton among others locally sourced here in Uganda. The products made and sowcased carry a rich cultural heritage rooted in the african culture.
For four years now, the Afri art and fashion show has been at the fore front of promoting Ugandan local artisans and artisanal products both locally and internationally. The show attracts tourists from all over the world who spend their money on accommodation, food and buying souvenirs (art, fashion and crafts) which are part of the tourism parcel.
The afri art and fashion show is a great initiative that brings to gether people from different backgrounds and fosters a sense of community and belonging. During these shows visitors, tourists, reveller and participants engage in traditional activities such as local dances, local games including omweso and taste our traditional food.
These nominations in the sustainable tourism awards are a win for us as they highlight our involvement in promoting our culture and heritage and also offer great visibility of our work.
